WEEK 6 ; CULTURAL ATTRACTION - GELANGGANG SENI KELANTAN

 Had entered the 6th week for us to go to a place of cultural attraction its is Gelanggang Seni. After we reached our destination they had played an old musical instrument named kertok. Many tourists who come to the place to watch the offerings performed by the old people. When we watched their offerings we had a chat with a leader in the place named ENGKU SYED ROSELAN AL-IDRUS. He has been in this field for over 30 years and his age this year is 68 years old. He has the advantage of speaking in several languages it is english, italian, france, mandarin, japan, and Germany.

Kertok is one of the traditional entertainment of the Kelantan Malay community. The origin of the Kertok game begins when it is used by rice growers for the purpose of repelling birds during ripening rice season. Nowadays this tool has a complete function and can be said to be well-known in the traditional Kelantan society which is the average farmer community. 

Kertok is made using Merbau or Nibong timber which is centered in it and filled with old processed coconut shells. The coconuts were split in two and placed a piece of wood made from Nibong wood, a kind of hardwood hammered. This board is known as a "belira" or a leaf and is tied with rubber on a pole located at the top of the kertok. Sometimes it is decorated with banners of various patterns and colors and interesting drawings.

Kertok is played at public ceremonies or officiating celebrations of the State's Chief. It can be played by two people or a group. A group consists of 12 to 24 participants. Kertok Paluan also has certain songs such as Ropok, Anjol, Kuncah Manis, Gadoh, Kudarambak, Kedogong and others.

On Monday 07/08/17, we visited Galeri Wau Pak Sapie that is located near to Pantai Cahaya Bulan.  with Pak Sapie. This is Pak Sapie. He is 70 years old. He’s been making wau since he was 14 years old and he’s been making it for 56 years. Pak Sapie said that in Kelantan they have 7 kind of wau such as wau bulan, wau kucing, wau merak, wau jala budi, wau puyuh and wau seri bulan. an example of wau bulan. Pak Sapie sold various kind of wau, one of them is wau bulan the symbolic of Malaysia. The price is from RM25 until RM100. Besides, it has 4 size, small, medium, large and extra large.
